The Canadian Farm Learning Centre is an online and in-person education program designed to provide farm business owners with the skill set needed to manage their farm business successfully. It was created to provide farm business owners with the skill set to understand the business and financial management issues that are currently impacting the efficiency, profitability, and risk of today's farming operations.
The interactive content has been programmed into three topic (module) areas:
Within the above topic areas, each module is divided into subsections which will help to identify the specific areas of concern that must be understood to understand the topic at hand. This will allow for a better understanding of how the topic relates to the users specific situation.
In each module, the farm manager will have the ability to complete worksheets to further their knowledge. Once all modules are completed, the farm manager will have generated a process that will assist with:
- Understanding which business structure is most appropriate
- Assessing efficiency, liquidity, and profitability
- Managing risk
- Understanding a succession plan
- Understanding family dynamics and how they affect farming issues
- Managing retirement funds
- Utilizing human resources on the farm
Disclaimer: The Online Learning Centre is not intended to be the sole provider of information for a farm business. Its purpose is to better prepare the farm manager to work alongside their farm financial team (i.e. accountants, lawyers, financial planners, etc.) and to be better equipped to ask the "right" type of questions to ensure the farm business is operating efficiently.
