Our expertise lies in minimizing taxes related to the sale of family farms and ensuring a tax-efficient transfer to the next generation.

    Purpose:

    The Tax Specialist works with our CI Assante Private Client Investment Counsellor, focusing on clients with investable assets exceeding $1 million. You will meet with existing and prospective clients, fostering growth within and outside of the client base in partnership with a dedicated wealth management department. The role is part of a broader team of Wealth Planning professionals delivering a holistic investment and wealth planning experience to high net-worth farm families across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The role requires an ability to provide a superior service level to High-Net-Worth clients in coordination with the Wealth Planning Group.

    We are engaged by farm families as trusted, fiduciary consultants providing a valuable, integrated and comprehensive solution to the complex issues involved in today’s family farm business. Specialized tax advice is essential for every engagement, whether it consists of transitioning to the younger generation, transitioning from active farming to asset liquidation, or retirement and estate planning.

    Research and preparation of tax-planning strategies for clients will take precedence over the preparation of personal tax returns. The ideal candidate enjoys being in the spotlight with clients, seeing themselves as the go-to resource for wealth planning.

    Accountabilities:

    The Tax Specialist’s accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Assist with the management of onboarding of new tax clients,
    • Review personal income tax returns and CRA reviews.
    • Review government remittance filings (T4, T5, CDA elections, GST).
    • Manage and secure client files with confidentiality.
    • Conduct discovery calls with prospective clients to discuss their affairs and explore potential tax and succession strategies.
    • Preparation of tax and succession plans for corporations, partnerships and individuals.
    • Preparation and review of annual corporate and personal tax plans
    • Collaborate with senior staff to meet client deadlines.
    • Develop and maintain client relationships.
    • Request supporting documentation and respond to client queries.
    • Track filing timelines for timely return completion.
    • Stay updated on tax law changes, especially in agriculture.
    • Research and apply the Income Tax Act for compliance and reorganization.
    • Support and review of internal bookkeeping.

    Job Requirements Summary:

    • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    • The In-depth Tax course is beneficial but not mandatory.
    • Experience in a similar role, preferably in agriculture.
    • Strong attention to detail, organizational and communication skills.
    • Proactive problem-solving and process improvement mindset.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of investment strategies and client financial management. As an Investment Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in guiding clients through the complexities of their investment options, ensuring alignment with their financial goals and risk tolerance. Your expertise will contribute significantly to our client’s success as you provide tailored advice in a dynamic financial environment.  

    In this role, you will work closely with a team of experienced professionals to provide insightful investment solutions tailored to meet the diverse needs of our clients. You will engage in thorough market analysis, support the development of customized investment strategies, and assist in managing client portfolios.  Your role will be pivotal in delivering value-added services that enhance client satisfaction and contribute to the overall success of our firm.     Responsibilities:

    The Investment Associate accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Assist in analyzing clients’ financial situations and investment needs.
